marfiskOkay, insanity has been reigning over this project for a while, but a heavy dose of reality slapped me in the face the other day. Is the new process of retyping the whole thing working? Yes. Is it working well enough to complete 74k of edits in a month when I'm going to be on the road for 2 weeks visiting friends and family? No. I've bowed to the inevitable and reset my goal for completing this pass to October first. Now, this still means I need to average 1261 per day and 8827 per week, so it's not going to be easy, but I hope that I'll be able to complete this within 59 days, especially since as of August 28th, the boys will be going back to school I should be moved into my new office, a lower distraction environment I hope.
Oh, and ran into an interesting scene today on the writing side rather than the organization side. This was a scene where I clearly had only a vague idea of what I wanted or how I was going to achieve it. I tossed in threads that were unrelated to the rest of the book and twists that could have made quite a tangle had I actually continued them. It's funny because I keep saying this is my stretch book. If it's a stretch book now, how much more so was it a 3 years ago when I began it. I think I have a better handle on threading now than I did then. Certainly I could recognize what had gone haywire and even better, I came up with a variation on the scene that culled the dead-end threads and added even more emotional baggage. I just hope I don't re-read it in 3 years and say, "Hmm, I wonder what I thought I was going for there" ;).

I plan to do unfinished business at FM next week and blow through the rest of When She Calls. We'll see if I carry it off :D.
