Belated Update

Well, it didn't take me long to fall down on the job, now did it? ;).

Actually, I did manage to complete the Labor of Love challenge with a handy 15056 words, a nice jump into the new novel. Since then, I filled in the season and place for each item and even got some more words, putting me at 19,670 and into the next "big happening".

I also learned something interesting about this book. I've been a bit worried because, honestly, the book is unrelieved doom and gloom. A darker more depressing storyline I could not have conceived of...whoops, please don't consider that a challenge, muse. However, yesterday I learned how I am going to keep the joy there, how even in the worst possible moments, the reader will remember there is more to her than a person who has lost her humanity literally as well as in society's eyes.

Flashbacks!

Oh no. I can hear you cringing from all across the world (okay, that may be a little arrogant but ;)). Actually, in this case I think the flashbacks should and will work. Simply, they have no real meaning at the time they occurred. Their sole value is in reminding Wardah why she loved Diggory and why she followed the steps that brought her to each place. While they offer her no hope, they do give her satisfaction and the knowledge that she did all she could for the man she loved as well as the remembrance of another time when she was another person.

We'll see. I've only written one so far and it made a solo berry-picking scene much more interesting :).

And stats:
67 scenes - though not exactly the original ones (and not counting the flashback as a separate one though I probably should).
16 complete - 24% of the novel
51 remain
82,368 Estimated length - with an average of 1229 words per scene.

Like anything, flashbacks aren't inherently evil. They just get mis- or overused a lot.

you made another blog? And you didn't tell me? Just pulling your leg. I wanted to see if I could post or not.
